Attracting a new client costs money, time, and energy. Keeping one costs almost nothing — if you have the right approach. 💛

Most boutique studios focus heavily on new client marketing and pay far too little attention to the 90 days after someone first walks through the door. That's where retention is won or lost.

⚠️ The 90-day danger zone

Research consistently shows that clients who don't form a habit in their first 90 days are very likely to cancel. They came for the classes. They stayed (or didn't) based on how they felt in the space.

We covered this in detail in 50% of your new clients will quit in 90 days. If you haven't read it yet, do that first.

🎯 Five retention strategies that work

1. Welcome new clients personally

A short personal message after a new client's first class — not automated, actually from you or an instructor — has a measurable impact on whether they come back.

2. Know their goals and track them

A client who feels seen stays. Capture basic goals at signup. Your client profiles should hold this information so instructors can reference it.

3. Flag the early warning signs

A client who attended 3x a week and suddenly goes quiet is at risk. Your booking data shows you this if you're watching. Set a threshold — no booking in 10 days — and trigger a personal check-in.

4. Make the next step obvious

After an intro offer ends, many clients drift because there's no clear next step. Auto-prompt the membership or pack upgrade at the right moment.

5. Build something worth staying for

A client breakfast once a quarter. A milestone wall. Celebrating 100-class achievements publicly. These create emotional investment that a cheaper competitor can't replicate.
